Makers of History bring the Golden Age of Ancient Greece to life in your classroom with our very popular ‘Glorious Ancient Greeks’ workshop!
Launched in 2014 with many repeat bookings, this is an exciting, interactive morning workshop in line with key National Curriculum objectives.
Penelope is facing a dilemma – she is the daughter of an Athenian lady and a Spartan soldier and has to choose which city to live in! Both are highly important and powerful city-states of Ancient Greece, but very different – and she needs the children’s help! As she works with your class through the morning, she outlines what life is like in both cities, so that they can help her decide. She covers the following sessions:
- Artefact handling, amazing Athenian achievements & landmarks
- What’s the big deal with democracy?
- Consulting the Oracle – children play a game to find out what lies ahead in Ancient Greece.
- Growing up in Sparta
- What makes a Good Spartan Hoplite?
- Authentic weapons and armour. Dress a child as a soldier
- Play the authentic Greek board game of Achilles and Ajax (time permitting)
- Craft a clay souvenir of Ancient Greece
All sessions take place in the classroom, so there’s no need to reserve Hall space. Never wasting a minute, sessions last from straight after Registration until a few minutes before lunch time. I bring all the equipment needed too – you can relax & enjoy the morning!
“Just wanted to thank you for another excellent workshop today. As ever, it all ran like an incredibly well-oiled machine, and the variety of activities, humour and lively presentation ensured that lots of useful learning took place and fostered the children’s love of history. Many thanks once again, I’m looking forward to another visit next year.”

“Excellent morning workshop – same as last year. The children really enjoyed it, with a range of activities which kept them engaged – dressing up, artefacts, games, acting. It covered lots of learning! We will book again for next year.”
Woodland CP School, Heywood
“Very engaging and hands on, and all objectives that Alison said would be covered were covered. We will definitely bear you in mind for future workshops. You were amazing with the children and teachers. Your activities were thoroughly planned and prepared, each morning was an excellent Greek experience for our Year 3 and 4 classes.”
Malpas Alport Endowed PS, Cheshire
“The children had very little prior knowledge and this workshop has been a great resource to hook them into our current topic. Fantastic day had by all. We will use this company again.”
